The fact that the processing industry in Brazil is making more and more use of flavours and essences from exotic Brazilian fruits (cajá, acerola, graviola, etc) to manufacture from toothpaste to sweets & drinks is something that has happened for years. Despite the fact that Brazil is already exporting fruit pulp for a quite long time, some new flavours and the names of these fruits are being also incorporated to the image of European products. The Italian company FERRERO, the producer of the sweets TicTac, for example, is launching this summer a new line which offers the flavours of acerola and mango. Recently the Dutch company FRIESLAND FOODS also put in the market a drink made of mixture of cajá, pineapple and orange juice. ACEROLA (“Barbados Sherry”) is a fruit with one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C. 100 grams of ripe acerola fruit contains 17,000 milligrams of vitamin C, whereas 100 grams of oranges contains only 50 milligrams. With a wonderful sweet & tropical citrus taste, CAJÁ helps to protect the body against infections, facilitates a healthy skin and may benefit the functioning of the retinas. Cajá is a good source of phosphorus, vitamin A and iron.
